Civic Room
Temporary Location
Civic Room, High Street, G1 1QB

Just towards the north of High Street, on an area of grass beside Civic Room, is the former location of Paterson’s sculpture Palisades.

Part of a group exhibition at Civic Room for Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art in 2018, this work was part of a project that looked into how art gives meaning to the past and how it imagines the future. Key to this work was its placement within the urban environment of Glasgow and how this links to other parts of the city, within ideas of history and time.

A permanent public work, Poised Array (2007), by Paterson is currently located at BBC Scotland Headquarters, Glasgow towards the west of the city.

Toby Paterson (b. 1974 in Glasgow, Scotland) studied at the Glasgow School of Art and the School of Art Institute of Chicago. His works reflect on the post-war reinvention of cities, art and architecture, creating paintings and sculptures to explore these ideas. Paterson won the 2002 Beck’s Futures Prize and has exhibited his works internationally from Mexico to the Netherlands.
